Let’s contrast that with the overwhelmingly lovely, heartwarming and not-in-any-way-despicable behaviour of several of his good mate Andy’s BoltStrokers™ over here, commenting on the news that Gough Whitlam is in hospital.

Even though it can never be tested, I would wager good money on the fact that if Bolt had have editorialised something along the nature of “well, I disagreed with his policies but I wish him and his family well”, the nature of his monkeys’ responses to his column would be in-step with their fearless leader.

FWIW, I wouldn’t celebrate if Howard was ill. That’s because playing the ball, not the man, is what political debate should be about, and because someone’s death is not an occasion for celebration.

the other issue i noticed is some of the bolt sheep criticising whitlam for being admitted to private hospital!! these no doubt are the same fools who think the private system should be propped up by taxpayers’ rebates to householders rather than let the system stand on its own two feet and cried foul when the govt deigned to increase the income threshold for the medicare surcharge. and i suppose if whitlam had of gone into the public system they would have a crack at him for that too. amazing. tim blair for once got it right: THESE PEOPLE ARE INSANE.

abu i do not see this as a ‘left’ / ‘right’ thing nor a thespian/audience thing. i have conservative friends who are nothing like the sheep at bolt’s, who have far more thought processing capacity. yet i went to uni with lefty colleagues who were every bit as rabid as bolt and his sheep. for me this is a blair/bolt issue and the fact that they simply projectile vomit at their blog and have their sheep respond by throwing turds rather than encouraging and eliciting meangingful discussion-based posts. in the case of the whitlam thread, there isn’t even any ‘opinion’ given by bolt, such was his confidence that the mere mention of ‘whitlam’ and ‘ill’ in the same sentance would be enough to elicit the sort of hatred, vile jealousy and petty inconsequential offerings from his sheep. the old moral equivalence argument some of them used for howard haters is irrelevant in my view. howard was prime minister at the time, making decisions on behalf of us, many of which were unpopular. the equivalence if you want to draw such comparisons is with rudd as PM, not whitlam, now a private citizen and no longer in the public spotlight.

To be serious for a moment, this idea that I never call people on Blair or Bolt’s site is rubbish. I’ve done it on occasions when I thought people were being arseholes, especially on Blair’s site. Like this site, doing so doesn’t exactly make you popular. Equally, like this site, when I see people froth at the mouth, I don’t always feel the need to call them on their idiocy.

Although i only skimmed through the posts regarding Whitlams health, i did see a few Boltites wagging their fingers and disapproving of the shameful joy that most of the others were experiencing.
I must confess though, that i cheer everytime i see the footage of John Howard falling over, slipping down stairs or bowling a cricket ball. However, I would never mock and belittle a dying man. The dead have strange powers…
If the majority of the posts regarding Whitlams health are anything to go by, most Boltites feel much the same when they see a sick old man who is slowly dying, as i do when i see film of JWH making a fool of himself(*). Yet another demonstration of the moral superiority of the Right.

Rachel, can you honestly argue that the “actual writings” of Blair or Blot are anything but ill-informed rant?
Take, for example, Blair’s approach to climate change. He has no formal scientific education, but nevertheless challenges the scientific consensus regarding global warming.
Blair’s response to a scientific study into migrating plant life (due to global warming) was this:
“That’s why we put fences around our gardens, so the plants don’t run away.”
You can count on Blair to address the “actual science”, and on this blog to address his “actual writings”.

I work in a multiple-disabilites school and many of the kids with CP have an intellectual disability.

To address your comments. My response to the raison d’etre of this site – pure ridicule – is appropriate and substantive. Did you really expect anyone to take this site seriously? I find it amusing and worthy of derision – though I do think that some of the people here whose views differ from mine are quite reasonable and sensible. On the other hand there are some grade-A clowns, in addition to those whose vocabularies are limited and resort to words like “fuck” and “cunt” when they reach the limits of their intellectual agility. Those people are to be despised. On the other hand, I don’t mind some of the snappy little insults like “winged-monkeys”. That one is as worthy as the term “Leftard”.

Doesn’t worry me, I’ve never found swearing particularly offensive – I like Billy Connolly.
For the record what has bothered me in my interactions with human beings is that so many of them don’t flinch when racist, sexist remarks are thrown around but act as if they’ve been stabbed in the heart when they hear a swear word. That to me is weird, but, we’re all different. (I don’t class ‘cunt’ as a sexist remark, any more than ‘prick’)

I read Andrew Bolt, I read the posts made by his minions, there’s a real lack of rationality going on over there, just look at the ridiculous, baseless posts made in the latest Obama thread. I haven’t been posting here for long but nothing about Ant’s posting style bothers me, I don’t subscribe to the maxim that swearing is a sign of a limited vocabulary, that’s proven false time and time again thus I don’t think much of people who throw it around.

It was Whitlam himself who suggested that Suharto “reclaim” this supposed Indonesian territory in 1974, and according to an Indonesian General it was Whitlam himself who “crystallised Suharto’s thinking” on the invasion, and subsequent genocide, by guaranteeing Australia would turn a blind eye.
It is to our country’s eternal shame that Whitlam has been allowed to grow old and free while wallowing in the blood of tens of thousands of people.
If there was any justice, he would have been executed by an International Court decades ago.

It’s par for the course from the Bolties, only yesterday I asked Andrew Bolt why he posted the email address of a poster known as Richard Ryan, considering this is at odds with News Corporations policy (and I suspect may be in contravention of privacy laws – though I’m not a lawyer)
My contention being that Bolt has the power to not publish posts he considers abusive or trollish thus it was a spiteful act on his part.
I got an answer along the lines of how Ryan is a troll (probably true) and had been warned many times. I then got accused by Andrew Bolt of mischaracterising him as someone who frequently does this, (I was referring to a single incident) and that I probably had a hidden agenda.
Maybe I’ll take it up with the News.com’s privacy officer, where I suspect I might get a straight answer.

i remember that. i criticised bolt at the time for not simply ignoring his posts, stating it was the more mature thing to do. naturally my post disappeared into the ether.

Those comments from Bolt’s blog were appalling. But I cannot help noticing hypocrisy coming from another area. After all, isn’t this very site set up to knock and bag Andrew Bolt and Tim Blair?
Let’s look at your own review of your “Praise” Section:

Both sides can be accused of scorn and abuse…however I still think conservatives are far more polite.
