“Skepticlawyer” links to Tim Blair on the controversial Art Monthly cover –
I’m going to stick the graphic up next to this post (make your own minds up) and make a few comments in response to Tim Blair’s and Kim at LP’s posts on this issue.
Kim’s post was nearly a thousand considered words, including quotes, musing on the subject.
This was Tim Blair’s staggeringly illuminating effort:

The advertisement that follows is longer than the post.
And says more. Tim doesn’t specify to which bit of the interview he wants to draw his readers’ attention. He doesn’t make a point. He doesn’t, in fact, say anything at all.

‘NOT PAID BY THE WORD’ should be the headline

Both Andy and Timmeh do this form of very lazy blogging and expect all the traffic and comments. I have even seen Andy link to a Timmeh post and Timmehs link to a substantial post someone else wrote (this happens on Sundays).
When is a post not a post – when it is some else’s post.

“Likewise, his daughter should be institutionalised for being annoying. It must be devastating to realise that the best you ever looked was at 6 followed by a rapid decay until, no doubt, she ends up looking like her father.

I agree, it’s supposed to be an opinion writers blog, not a (crappy) news site.
It also makes them look bad as it attracts some nutjobs who go off on some tangent whinging and whining about some tripe when its clear they didn’t even read, or at least understand the news item that was on the other end of the link.
A memorable one was “Deadly Sensitive” about the government not brining in laws to punish people having unprotected sex when they know they are afflicted with HIV. It really brought out the gay hating rednecks out of the woodwork, I remember it contained one of RoseB’s (a regular Bolt blogger) ridiculous conspiracy theories “Gays and Lesbians are trying to take over the public service”.
I had a good laugh.

Tim Blair: CAPS LOCKED

Gold.

Did it occur to the posters that Blair thought the man’s attitude about the whole thing, in his own words, was sufficient enough?
No, of course not, because the likes of Jeremy and his ilk don’t see anything amiss with the attitude of the father in regards to his daughter’s exploitation.
Apparently Blair needs to belabor the obvious in a 1,000 word essay to achieve some sort of validity in their eyes.
Of course, had Blair GONE to the trouble to spell out the trouble with publishing nude photos of a 11 year old girl, I am SURE Jeremy and his ilk would have given his analysis a fair a reasoned reading, right?

Hmm, that’s funny. Tim often gets flak about telling his “sheep” what to think. Now in one post he basically says, “Draw your own conclusions”, and he gets flak for NOT telling his “sheep” what to think.
Apparently, he assumed we could read, comprehend, form an opinion and comment all on our own.
(And yes, feel free to have fun with that last sentence.)

I Googled “andrew bolt deadly sensitive” with no success. Do you have a link?

I’m sure you see my point.

“I’m sure you see my point.”
How sure are you?

I think the interview spoke for itself. To take a bit of liberty with a common saying, sometimes a video is worth a thousand words. No additional editorializing was necessary.
And can you clarify this, Gtg:
“I agree, it’s supposed to be an opinion writers blog, not a (crappy) news site.”
Where did you find an explanation of what it is “supposed to be”? Are there rigid blog rules somewhere that everyone is supposed to follow, no matter what? Or is it your job to determine what someone else’s blog is supposed to cover?
As far as I can see, Tim’s blog on the Telegraph site is a continuation of his previous blog under his own name. I’ve always considered it a combination of a news aggregation site and a political opinion site. Sometimes the opinions are highlighted and sometimes the news is highlighted. Usually it’s a mixture of both, in some proportion. Is that really a difficult concept to grasp? Is a mix like that too confusing for you? Walking and chewing gum at the same time is another tough combo but lots of people can do it.

“LINKAGE CITED”
And, of course, Jeremy is copying Tim’s style of headlines.
What’s that old saying? Oh, yeah, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
11 July, 2008 at 11:46 am
I prefer: “Imitation is the most subtle form of mockery.” Clearly too subtle for some…
11 July, 2008 at 2:21 pm
I prefer: “Sarcasm is the least understood form of humor for lefties.” Clearly too subtle for some…
11 July, 2008 at 2:25 pm
I’ll take that as flattery.
11 July, 2008 at 2:51 pm
“And, of course, Jeremy is copying Tim’s style of headlines. “
Odd, if it’s such a fantastic meme he’s copying out of admiration, that he only does it when mocking Blair’s posts, and nowhere else, isn’t it?

“Where did you find an explanation of what it is “supposed to be”?
Looks at the tabs at the top. It’s under “Opinion” and “Blogs”
“I’ve always considered it a combination of a news aggregation site and a political opinion site.”
So your allowed to make a judgment about what its supposed to be and I’m not? Hmmm
TBH I dont care what it’s classified as, linking to other peoples news items without any comment of his own just shows how lazy and pathetic he is as a journalist (not that we needed any more proof)

I’ll try and find it. I might have got the name wrong.

Ok found it. Sorry for 3 posts in a row.

NFI why that didn’t show up, it was the threads exact name.
11 July, 2008 at 4:32 pm
That’s a killer blow, boys. Here’s an alternative headline for this scoop:
“Tim Blair criticised for linking to interview from his blog.”
Wow! I mean, Oh My God.
Blair must be so embarrassed.
You win.
11 July, 2008 at 5:39 pm
Gtg, are you seriously suggesting that Tim is lazy for linking to another blog post? Posting links to other blogs is a standard part of blogging.
Editors, are you going to fix the photo to correctly show the reflections?
11 July, 2008 at 5:50 pm
Cmon guys, it’s ONE blog article… does it really matter?
11 July, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Jeremy, you never call, why don’t we talk anymore?
That’s right, because it turns out polite society couldn’t deal with your chronic verbal masturbation habit.

“Gtg, are you seriously suggesting that Tim is lazy for linking to another blog post? Posting links to other blogs is a standard part of blogging.”
You’re right. I must have underestimated the work it takes to post links to news articles.
13 July, 2008 at 4:10 pm
“He doesn’t make a point.”
Blair stopped trying to make his own points some time back it seems.
Now his ‘point of view’ frequently consists of a quick AP browse or posts sent into him by others.
I foresee Tim posting a monumental booboo soon, as he forgets to check even his basic facts.
What few journalisitc standards remaining at the Tele are fast slipping out the back door.

“Now his ‘point of view’ frequently consists of a quick AP browse or posts sent into him by others”
its the same with bolt but at least he still writes ‘columns’. and bolt has made a few errors where he’s posted stuff sent to him by readers only to be told by other readers that the story was 5 years old or not interpreted properly. flimsy in my view. wouldnt it be better to have a couple of well researched genuine opinions than have a shit load of links to stories proper journalists have written?
14 July, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Oh Sweet Jesus, does anyone here click on the links to the blogs some of these Bolt supporters have?
I read the last entry on CBs blog which started with…. “This blog does not discriminate. Most things happening around me give me the shits in equal amounts, it’s only the depth that may vary. For instance. Celebrity homosexuals that don’t want to be ‘outed’.”
ugh…. you learn from the best don’t you, declare yourself “I’m not evil….but….”
Goes to show the general intelligence and bigotry of those who crave Bolts insights and try to emulate him by spraying bullshit.
