Of course the policy was announced by the Liberals in 2004.
Did they do anything about it? Nope
Just words announced by one Dr B Nelson.
As Rudd said yesterday "it is time to do something about it" (or something like that).

DbD,

I wrote this (which is not to say that the Liberals didn’t want to reform education in the same or a similar way).

It's just a continuation of the distortions and lies of an idiot.

It is best not to respond to him at all - which is the policy I think everyone here has adopted.

I suppose that some people are so totally ideologically driven and welded on to one political party they can never admit that the other side have had some good ideas

I never said it was a bad idea. I was responding to Dean's comment that the idea is not a conservative idea.

I was pointing out the fact that the policy was first put forward by the conservative political party in Australia, the Libs. Given that they were the party to produce this policy, it is safe to say that it is a conservative policy as they created it.

"Dean you are forgetting one very important fact about this policy, it was Coalition policy back in 2005 when Brendan Nelson was pushing for it."

Did you forget that Dean, or was Rad just divining what you were thinking with his mind reading abilities, the same way he does when explaining to us all what Bolt ACTUALLY meant to say?
He has strange powers this Rad Pipper...

Frankly, who cares if it was Coalition policy if it is a good idea?
I suppose that some people are so totally ideologically driven and welded on to one political party they can never admit that the other side have had some good ideas, but i thought these kinds of closed minded ideologues were a product of 'the Left', not at all what you would expect from a middle of the road conservative like Rad.

There is nothing wrong with making people accountable for their earnings and their work as individuals. Equally, there is nothing wrong with applying the same principles to business and corporations. And that’s not leftist, rightist, conservative or liberal - it’s progressive

Check out Bolt's post on Rudd's speech on education/school reform.

http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/rudd_delivers_substance_on_schools/

Nothing wrong with Bolt's analysis of the speech and the underlying intentions.

What's revealing is the last sentence:

Has Rudd at last revealed the Prime Minister he wishes to be? Conservative, reforming, pragmatic…

Conservative...reforming. See how outdated these terminology are?

Bolt has tried so hard to characterise Labor and Rudd as "Leftist" - only because it's derogatory in his eyes - it's the easy way out when you don't have an argument. The term "Leftist", in the context of Australian politics is practically meaningless.

Labor has been a government of reform in the 80s and early 90s and looks like being so in Rudd's term (no chickens to be counted yet though). Rudd is pretty much a Tony Blair carbon copy and the best way to describe Blair is probably "progressive".

Bolt and his ilk need to get over the childish notion that if an idea looks good it must come from his side and can therefore be labelled "conservative" (which is not to say that the Liberals didn't want to reform education in the same or a similar way). It's an inane argument.
